Dayton Federation of Women's Clubs Records

Abstract

Records include annual reports, programs, meeting minutes, membership records, and scrapbooks containing clippings and photographs pertaining to the club's activities. Founded in 1907, the Dayton Federation of Women's Clubs is an amalgamation of Dayton area women's organizations and is engaged locally in charitable, educational and social activities.

The Dr. Richard A. DeWall Papers contain material from Dr. DeWall’s lengthy career. Within the collection there are copies of publications, patent documentation, and presentation slides created by Dr. DeWall. The material mostly relates to Dr. DeWall’s invention of the bubble oxygenator. However, there are some materials from his efforts to create a medical school at Wright State University.

Kenneth Middaugh Scrapbook (MS-542)

Scope and Contents

This scrapbook was created by Middaugh’s wife for his birthday in 1924. It highlights his activities as a jazz musician in the early 1920s. The Middaugh family are from New Paris, Preble County, Ohio. Kenneth played in a jazz orchestra which performed in Dayton at the Greystone Ballroom, Cincinnati, Terre Haute, and other locations. He also was employed at Wilbur Wright Field. There are pictures of the recording studio he used in Indiana, and Wilbur Wright Field and Country Club.

Dayton native, Margaret Shardelow Young, was a member of the Friday Afternoon Club, one of the city's oldest women's literary clubs. She was also a local school teacher and long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton. The collection includes her Friday Afternoon Club writings, schoolbooks, teaching notes, photographs, and greeting cards with her original poetry.
